Review of Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse by James from Palm Coast
I have mixed views about this place due to their lack of understanding about dietary needs. I like to be vegan but occasionally settle for vegetarian food when little else is available, so I called ahead here to check if they had options for me at the hibachi which they said they did, which was true and I ordered the Veggie & Tofu Hibachi in Ponzu Sauce. But the problem was with the chef cooking it with some of my food touching meat and seafood on the grill and using the same tools and utensils for both. I know I sound like a prude but I really don't care what other people eat. I choose not to eat animals and the thought of me personally consuming any really grosses me out. When mentioned to the chef I just got a look! I just ask for restaurants to take vegans and vegetarians a little more seriously. There are many of us and this town in particular seems to have a problem with that. With that being said, the food was flavorful and had that good 'grill' taste, but I just couldn't eat too much. Service was friendly but it looked like they were short staffed.

Went for the hibachi with friends Saturday night. You really go here for the entertainment value as if you were just served the food without the show I don't think it would taste so good. But combined it's a fun evening and if you're with a good crowd then you can have a great time here. The staff are all great and lively but the ambiance could do with a little work.

Went for the hibachi with some work colleagues and had a great time. All the staff was really on the ball and our hibachi chef was a lot of fun. The food was about average but it's more about the entertainment value here. Everyone in our party enjoyed themselves and no one left hungry.

I will start by saying that the service here couldn't have been better or more friendly and our chef was a lot of fun. We arrived for early dinner and it was almost empty so we had no wait. The hibachi food tasted great but our plates were mostly rice or noodles with just a small amount of shrimp or meats. They have some nice decor and plenty of hibachi tables and I think when busy the vibe would be much more lively.

This is a good place for a fun night out. Although the food is cooked before you it doesn't really compare to chef cooked Japanese food from a kitchen. However, it's really not bad and you get the entertainment thrown in. It is on the pricey side but you get plenty of food and the service was very attentive. The drinks were decent enough and they have a good Japanese whiskey. The atmosphere is lively ut don't expect an intimate meal here as you're most likely with other people.

We went for hibachi a few weeks ago and had a great time and loved the food, so we stopped in last week when craving sushi and was disappointed. The server was a bit of a space cadet and although nice enough seemed like she was on another planet and just didn't get simple requests. They had several items available and substitutions, and the sushi rolls were just not very well made. As a hibachi restaurant, the experience was excellent and I recommend it, but in the bar area with sushi, Publix sushi is a better option.

Our family of five had such a fun night here. The chef was a blast and all of our food was so tasty and cooked perfectly. Daughter ordered sushi and thought it very fresh and delicious. Staff all pitched in and we never had to ask for a thing as they anticipated our needs. I think it took a while for this place to find itself in Palm Coast but judging by our experience they have got there.

Just awful! Waited 15 minutes for our drinks just for the waitress to forget then ask us what we ordered again. Then we waited 30 minutes just to put our order in and we didn't even get the same waitress. After waiting 23 minutes for our food (just to be bland and falling apart) we decided to leave and have decided collectively to never go back.

A fun place for dinner and a show... our chef was entertaining and his food was good but the soup starter could have been better. The staff are all very friendly but the service was slow especially from the bar, and we would have had more drinks had we received them faster. We did have a good time though and hope tonight was just an off night for them.

Just stopped in for some sushi and thought it was very good. They have quite a large selection and all the rolls we ordered looked and tasted very good. The Oklahoma Roll was my favorite. The staff is nice and the atmosphere pleasant. Japanese beer was very good.

First time here since Sakura and the renovations have definitely freshened the place up. Staff provided good service and our hibachi chef was a lot of fun. Food tasted very good and portions were large - their yum yum sauce should come by the gallon and with a straw LOL Nice that they offer Tofu and Veggie hibachi which made my daughter happy. The deep fried cheesecake is an incredibly bad (as in good) dessert.

A huge improvement over the first time we went a few months ago! Service was top notch and our chef was a lot of fun and had a big personality. The food was tasty and definitely plentiful and the kids really enjoyed the show. A fabulous establishment and can't wait to return.

I guess now you need a reservation if yo want the hibachi so we ended up ordering sushi instead which was good but we had our hearts set on hibachi and some entertainment. Our visit a couple of months ago for hibachi was much more positive. Staff here are also very under trained and need more knowledge.

They appear to be having staffing issues and I know that's a general problem so I try to be forgiving, but maybe management should be more present to guide and pitch in as needed. Staff problems, aside, they still make my food and take my money so i do have some expectations. Food was about average, flavors were not so bad but overall it didn't have much vibrancy or freshness about it. Sushi rolls tasted no better than I can get at Publix. Just felt like the restaurant is running on a very tight budget. It also took awhile to be acknowledged by staff when we first entered and we came close to leaving. Definitely needs some improvements all round.

I am so disappointed in the sushi rolls my daughter and I had last night. Didn't even eat it. It was NOTHING like I used to get when it was Sakura. And the girl who answers the phone there doesn't know shit about anything. Two times I've called there to ask questions and she is LOST. I'm done with this place.

I have been to several of these Japanese style teppanyaki /hibatchi restaurants and they mostly do the same banter and playing with the food while cooking and it's just the personality of the chef that will really make it, and here our chef did quite a good job considering other diners really weren't paying attention. The food was OK and tasted just like most but it's no Benihana! Service was good and efficient but the atmosphere is too stark. Overall it's quiet a fun experience for local with reasonable food but don't expect high quality Japanese cuisine.

They haven't done a whole lot of renovations since Sakura but the food and the service are much better. Six of us went for dinner hibachi and had a lot of fun... the chef was entertaining and funny and the food was plentiful and delicious. Servers were always checking on us and we thought it was good value for money. This is great place for a celebration or just a fun night out with good food.

We got take out and it was awful! The salad was rusty with watery dressing. The shrimp tempura roll had cream cheese in it. I order this roll all the time, I have NEVER had warm cream cheese in it. Gross! The hibachi was mediocre at best. I miss Sakura already!
