Review of JT's Seafood by Rory from Palm Coast
Had the most fantastic fried oysters ever last April (2014). Had the oysters again in January 2015. The waiter explained that the good Florida oysters weren't in season at the time. Anyway, even if the oysters weren't as good as before, the service was friendly and prompt. The experience was very pleasant both times. The seafood and sides are very good. If you dine there when the really good oysters are in season, you'll say they are the best you ever had. It's one of those "best kept secrets".

Great food but do not go for the ambiance. You pay more for fish, but will not get better.

I just visited JT's Seafood Shack this past weekend. My husband and I go there all the time. The staff first of all are very friendly - they make you feel welcome, just as the owners and managers do as well. The food is very good. The specials are to die for. They always have at least four fresh fish in the house at all times. I had the Flounder special with the Grits which was fantastic. My mother had the shrimp pot, she said it was delicious. My husband had the Salmon special. Also, very very good. Jt's is an all around great place to eat. I tell everyone who is in town to visit this place. I have owned restaurants in the past, and I can tell you their food is great. Try the place yourself, you will love it. The owners and managers are always there to assist you with anything that is needed. Hostess greets you with a smile. What else can you ask for in an establishment.

I have tried this place three times and each time the service was so poor I felt like walking out. One afternoon, I had the suspicion that the waiter did not even want us in the restaurant. The parking lot is always full and they are always busy. I don't get it. The fish tacos were the worst I have ever experienced. Overly deep fried pieces of something that you couldn't even chew if you wanted to. On paper, the menu looks great, but the chef doesn't deliver. I don't know how they stay in business or why people go there.

I go to JT's all the time. I think there food is very good. The servers are as well. For the people who felt rushed, Why would you go into a restaurant when it is almost closing time to begin with? For the rest of the first timers. Don't let that review scare you away. The restaurant is great.

Vacationing in Florida, seafood is a must! We have never been more disappointed with the quality of food and overall the service was not great. I have served and bartended in the past and realize what good service is and I am fully aware that kitchens have a closing time, but since the minute we sat down all of our food seemed to be in a rush like everyone in the kitchen wanted to get out of there fast tonight... Hush puppies were not cooked all the way, crab cakes were horrible and not cooked well. No flavor in any of the dishes that we ordered, like calamari. Alligator was tough, the ultimate shrimp and "seafoods for one" were very small portions for price. The sweet tea was old, Cesar salads horrible. It was one thing after another and we are all really laid back and not that picky. The kids pasta was ordered with sauce on the side. It was 15 min late (along with another order) after rest of table received food. Our server said, "sorry kitchen is closed so we just have to take it off the bill" Did not offer any other option for a kid to eat. It made me cringe paying that much for a dinner and having this as our "Florida seafood experience". I just had to warn those who are not regulars. We may have just had bad luck tonight, but leaving hungry with a bad taste in our mouth and wasted money.

Previous visits to JT's have been more satisfying regarding the quality of the food. Last evening we ordered the fried shrimp. When our dinners arrived, the shrimp and hush puppies were different than we had eaten previously, tasting as if they'd just been taken out of the freezer. Previous shrimp had been plump and succulent and tasted fresh. Although the restaurant was very crowded , we were seated in a reasonable amount of time and received good service. In fact, there were so many people waiting, the hostess was going to seat us at a table for four just to get us seated. There were four people behind us in line, so we opted to sit at the bar to eat. We were disappointed in this visit - don't mind paying more for fresh seafood, but last night we didn't feel that the quality measured up to the price.

If you want crab cakes this is not the place, you need Maryland. Most things are fried but the steamed shrimp are wonderful.

This place was a nice experience. From the outside, it looks exactly as the name indicates: A shack. While the exterior might turn some away, it really shouldn't. The food was absolutely delicious and the prices are on par or better than other places in the area. Service could have been a little better; missing silverware and a request for water that was never brought were some minor issues, but generally speaking the demeanor of the friendly waitress made up for it. The place was quite busy and minor oversights are forgivable. Yup, I will be back there! I'm all about "The Shack."

Really loved it!! Everything was perfectly prepared. I had a delicious blackened mahi wrap. My husband's fried oysters were mmm-mmm-mmm. I read a prior review about JT's french fries and they were right on! Atmosphere was just what you want out of a seafood shack- laid back. Fun live music to boot!

I haven't been here for a long time but was invited recently by friends. We went for happy hour which was reasonably busy and atmosphere was buzzing. I ordered fish tacos and thought they were very good and much better than I expected. Service is a bit rough around the edges but overall a good time with decent friends, drinks and food.

Jt's stays consistent and offer a great specials menu from the chef! The outside looks conceiving and considering the name as a shack. This place is more than a shack and the food can prove it. I feel at home when I entertain my friends or just my husband at Jt's. The servers make you feel that you are the most important person in the restaurant. We entertain at many restaurants and this one guy has nothing good to say about any restaurant!! A little advice Stay at Home!!!! See how you cook for your wife Mr. Weir. Are you a Chef? maybe its time to stay home. We stay in the Hammock for 6 months a year and will keep coming back :-) Keep up the Good service and food presentation!

Just ate at Jt's Seafood Shack on Sunday. Two of us had the steam pot, 3 had tuna special, kids had hamburgers and fries. Everything came out at the same time. Love the black beans and rice. The steam pot was done perfect .Sweet waitress didn't rush us relaxed ate and enjoyed the music. We will be back for more good food and the atmosphere. Went to a 60th birthday party catered by JT'S with a whole hog roast and all the fixings for 70 people everyone raved. I will have them cater my next party.

I was just at JT's with my husband. We had the stuffed grouper and it was delicious. The chef really does a great job with the specials. I recommend them to anyone. The service is wonderful, they are attentive and make you feel comfortable. What else could you ask for.

We have been coming down to Palm Coast for the last 3 years from NY and we always look forward to going to JT's. The nightly specials while not cheap are excellent. I have tried several different items and I have always been amazed by the taste. On our most recent visit my wife had pasta w/sundried tomatoes in a cream sauce that was very good. Burgers have always been good. I think the place is always packed because the food IS good and the wait staff is attentive. We highly recommend JT's.

We had not visited in quite a while. Things have changed and not for the better. What was once passable is now unacceptable. The Minorcan Chowder has turned into a thick, gray, brown, pasty, gluey mass minus any seafood and chock full of taters. It used to spicy, lighter and quite good. Rice and beans are a staple in the south. My black beans were sitting on a mass of buttery rice pilaf. Pilaf! What the heck! Use white rice! This is the USA. The fish itself was tasteless and salty. That may be due to the storms in the area and the need to used frozen fish but still, it really was not fresh tasting at all. The preparation was overall, amateurish and the ingredients were sub-par. This was one of the last restaurants in Flagler County we would consider going into, it's gotten that bad around here with places closing and quality nose diving. Ah well, St Augustine and Ormond are not that far after all. The food was so greasy and buttery, I got the hot burps! Thanks JT!

I can only best describe my dining experience here as "very odd". We entered and were never greeted. Staff just looked at us and walked by and when finally said something there was no nice welcome, she just begrudgingly show us to a table. The calamari appetizer was just tiny "bits" that were mostly too small to pick up and dip. Our entrees were not impressive either. The flavor was odd and the texture of my fish didn't seem right. Service was not good throughout the meal and we had to keep asking for everything. The restaurant was not full so I don't know why the staff seemed so flustered and I wonder what it must be like when it is full.

Every time my husband and I drive by JT's, the parking lot is packed! We finally had the opportunity go there for dinner last week. The service was phenomenal. Their house martini is delicious. The food was great, too. We will definitely go there again.
