Review of Ai Japanese Restaurant by Lance & Becca from Palm Coast
Not too impressed and don't understand the good reviews. Firstly, the place feels musty and is very spartan, secondly, the woman serving had about as much personality as a fire hydrant, and thirdly, the food completely lacked any flavor, the tempura batter tasted like it was fried in old grease, and the sushi fell apart as soon as they were touched. Soup was good though. I think I'll have nightmares tonight about that server 😱

Kind of a minimalist type of place in terms of the food and decor. I have been visiting here for years and as some of the food here can be quite bland, I have learned that the best items to order are those with good natural flavors like the Nigiri and Maki rolls. Service is always very good but the restaurant is starting to show its age.

Customer service was very good and the restaurant is relaxing. They have a lot of appetizers to choose from and a good selection of traditional Japanese dishes and sushi. Their sushi is quite plain and lets the flavor of the ingredients shine instead of sauces and bits that other places cover their rolls in. The Yakitori skewers are similar with just a light basting. Everything is priced very reasonably.

Nice and calm in here but not your modern type of sushi restaurant, with more basic traditional offerings and service. Unrushed with well prepared food with nice delicate and fresh flavors. Katsu is good here and their tempura is light and not greasy. I also recommend their ramen which is especially good in the colder weather.

Best sushi in town hands down. They will start their dine-in withlimited seating on November 1st... yippee! Looking forward to enjoying the best sushi in town. Owners are super nice.
Highlight of visit: Love love the yaki udon and Tina Don... plus their chicken katsu is super good best ginger dressing in town.

Picked up order as still no inside dining. Customer service very good and polite and everything was well packed for transporting. The Japanese Rice bowl and Yaki Udon were delicious and come with Miso Soup and small Salad. Katsu is also very good here usually get a combo of Salmon and Scallop. Highly recommend.

We had better expectations of this restaurant. The food seemed very traditional and was very fresh but everything was plain and lacked flavor. Service was polite and very efficient and atmosphere very calm and minimalist. Very little to eat for vegetarians which upset my wife. I don't recommend as there's some much more exciting sushi restaurants in Palm Coast with more choices and better flavors.

I was craving a good ramen so called to see what they had to offer and was recommended their Hell Ramen, which has pork, beansprouts, egg, seaweed, etc. which turned out to be absolutely delicious. Their broth had a great flavor with just the right amount of spiciness. I don't like sushi to go as it never tastes the same once I get it home, so would like to try their sushi one day once we can dine in. Very good service also with the gentleman being patient with my questions and very polite when picking up.

Been dining at Ai since it's early days and with different owners. Today it has the same discrete and professional service and calming atmosphere. The food is wonderful with a great attention to detail. Just had takeout and everything was so fresh with vibrant flavors. It's in a kind of depressing looking plaza now but hopefully they'll get a facelift soon like across the street.

Ai is a Palm Coast institution! It's the only true Japanese restaurant in town serving traditional hand crafted dishes such as Ramen, Curry Pots, Kettle Pots, katsu, etc., plus the best sushi around. And if you like tempura you won't find a lighter batter than Ai's. Dine in only right now but still very enjoyable at home.

I have not had their sushi as I just for their ramen which is excellent and the best anywhere around. Both the Miso and the Hell (spicy) ramen taste amazing. The restaurant is basic but has a calming feel about it and service is professional and discrete. A true gem of place.

It's starting to feel a little tired inside but still a very classy establishment. Service is top notch even though they only seemed to have one person out front. Sushi is excellent but I'm very fond of their other dishes such the Japanese Curry Pots and Ramen. Their tempura batter is also so light and crispy and is the best in town. Japanese Saporo beer washes it down perfectly. It's hidden away next to Ace Hardware and easily missed but well worth looking for. I highly recommend.

This is Old School sushi served in a minimalist atmosphere. Don't expect neon or LED mood lighting, or sushi served with dry ice, etc., and trendy sake cocktails. What you get here is traditional sushi and discreet service in a modest setting. The ingredients are fresh and the sushi is made well. Prices reasonable for the quality. It's been here for many years and has never disappointed us.

Service is impeccable and very attentive but discrete. Sushi rice is the best in the area and not sweet and vinegary like most places. The bento boxes offer good variety and value. This is not your showy type of sushi restaurant but a more traditional restaurant offering high quality and very fresh ingredients. Eat slow here, sip sake and savor.

This is the ultimate best place in Flagler County for fresh quality Japanese cuisine...period! We have lived her 22 years and have tried all the other places.. our entire family and friends will attest to this. Toom /server is sweet spot on and is the best. There is a wait and most know its so worth it. Best sushi/ sashimi .Tempura is amazing. Yaki Udon...yummy. Great calamari.

Ai has been around forever in Palm Coast and for good reason! It's friendly intimate restaurant with gracious service and fresh food. The sushi is made with care and ingredients taste very fresh and vibrant with wonderful flavors. Soups are excellent too. It feel very authentic and prices are reasonable considering the quality. Their bento boxes at lunchtime are great value. They have recently updated the St. Joes plaza it's located in, so it feels much better there now.
Highlight of visit: Bento boxes for lunch are excellent.
