My brother and I have both lived some parts of our lives in the South-Western United States and acquired a taste for Mexican cuisine. Both of us are now retired and find ourselves living in Palm Coast, FL and make it a habit/hobby of dining and evaluating for our own edification (big word, sorry) all the available restaurants in the area. Today we chose La Familia and both agree that the food and service was excellent and that if you were looking for Mexican cuisine this is the place to go. My own sorry little nit-picking complaint is that the salsa was not quite hot enough. OK, the salsa was about right for your average east-coast tourist but real Mexican brings a sweat on ya. OK, nit-pickin' I know. I'll be back though.
I had the Taco Al Carbon and it was excellent.

We have been several times. Last time was very bad. Started in back parking lot with no lights. Almost tripped and fell. Waitress said they've been meaning to add lights and should do it soon. Got faitas for two. Food came out very quickly, like maybe it was already made for someone else. It was OK, but not as good as we'd had before. Near the end of our dinner, there was a strong cleaning agent smell. My wife said they must have been cleaning the kitchen so they could get out of there. It was 8:30 PM, and that must be late for this restaurant. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area. We won't be going back.

Friday evening after going to First Friday in Flagler Beach my wife and I decided to try La Familia restaurant. As usual parking was somewhat of a problem but it was worth the effort to look for parking. We arrived around 7:30 and the place was full but several tables were about to leave so waiting around 10 minutes for a table was not a problem. The waitress quickly asked us for our drink order and because they do not have a liquor license, my wife had Chardonnay and I had Sangria. Both were good and prices were very reasonable. Along with the drinks came the complimentary chips and salsa (again very good and fresh). We then ordered a Tacos Al Carbon(??) which came with rice and some very good beans and two tacos with a tamale (that was covered in great sauce). A 3 piece band was playing Latin music which added to the atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated nicely, was clean and the service was very good. Our total bill came to $27 not including tip. We will definitely return.

We were at La Familia for the first time yesterday -- we will return. The chips and salsa are fresh (still warm) and delicious. Three of us enjoyed a wine margarita... wonderful! And I will definitely order my spinach quesadilla again. All four of us left full and happy:).

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Flagler Beach! Don't waste your time going to A1A Burrito works or Fuego Del Mar. This is true Mexican food. My wife and I went there for breakfast and the food was amazing! We plan on going there for dinner this week because the food was so good!!

The second I walked in the door I knew that this was going to be unlike every other Mexican restaurant I have been to... boy was I right! The seating was fast and the menus were small, yet easy to read. Famous Selena was playing in the background... then my server came to ask for drink orders. Not only was she rude and pushy but had the audacity to ask if I knew anything at all about Mexican food while still in my first 3 minutes of reading the menu. Maybe she had a bad day.
I ordered the carne asada combo and my wife had beef fajitas. The food came quick and I now know why. The carne asada lacked any flavor at all and was under cooked for what I ordered, the best thing on my plate was the Pico de gallo! My wife's fajitas came on a hot skillet that literally BURNED everything on it to the point of charcoal. The corn tortillas were soggy and somewhat cold. When we told the server about our food she was yet again rude and put-offish about our comments. The owner or a manager never came out to check on anything at any time throughout our less than mediocre dinner.
Final thoughts... Don't bother with La Familia unless you want a meal right on par with Taco Bell for triple the price. I might add that I have, in fact, had authentic Mexican food (in Mexico) and expected a lot more than bland, flavorless food and horrible service. We will not be going back and I STRONGLY recommend you don't either or be prepared for sub par food, device and atmosphere.

We just left the restaurant a few minutes ago - it was great! My wife and I got fajitas and the kids got quesadillas. Everything was very flavorful. The salsa was great, the flan was great. I will definitely be going back to try some other dishes. Please please please everyone don't let this restaurant close down. I have been waiting forever for a good Mexican place to eat. Best within a 25 mile radius for sure. I won't be able to keep it open by myself, but I will be back frequently to do my part. Make the great sacrifice of eating good Mexican food and join me on this journey.

La Familia was a good overall experience, with roomy interior, friendly staff, and excellent dishes.
Service was a little slow and confused when I was there, as it was a new place and I think this may've been the first decent crowd they've had since opening.
But any mix ups or problems were quickly rectified and all of the employees were very friendly and helpful.
My greatest issue/concern/what have you was that the decor did not feel reminiscent of a Tex/Mex establishment as it was too calm quiet, and the walls weren't covered with decor.
If I'm in the area again and have a craving, I will definitely choose this place over the immediate area's other choices.

Pretty good. They just opened and I'm sure it'll get better. Clear communication from management on how or what they could do improve. Try the guacamole, it was good!
