Southside Hickory House PERMANENTLY CLOSED

We had dinner at this restaurant on a Thursday evening and were very disappointed. My baby back half rack did not taste as advertised "smoked for hours" but rather more like sat in the refrigerator for hours. No smoke taste, scant on the meat and not as tender as it should have been if truly smoked that long. My husband's ribs tasted old as well. The baked potatoes were not freshly baked, and the green beans had no seasoning. Barbecue sauce was watery. The coleslaw was tasty, as was the garlic toast, but that did not save the meal.

More like bar food than the fine dining we expected. Waste of money at $12-$15 per meal.

We have been here 3 times. We love the Cincy chili - it has just the right amount of spices! However, we did ask the chef to only add half the amount of cheese. We don't know anywhere else that serves Cincy chili, so it is great that Southside opened up. We also have had nice salads and ribs. Waitstaff and managers are so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is fun and great location at the beach. Nice patio, too. We will definitely return.

The food was great, ribs were the most tender and so was the brisket, loaded twice baked potato and green beans are a good side choice. The burger was big and juicy and the seasoned fries were hot and crispy. I will be back... its worth a try.

Chili horrible, looked like dirty dish water with a few beans added .BBQ just about as bad! Brisket was like a cheap roast stringy and not tasty. Don't waste your money!

We both had a fantastic pulled pork sandwich with chips. The meat was tender, moist and flavorful. No fat. Choice of regular or spicy sauce on the side. They have lots of BBQ and other items to choose from (chili, fish, burgers, etc). I would recommend you give it a try since they appear to need our support (lunch mid week was not busy). Nice location just across from the ocean. We will certainly be going back.
